Debbie Hicks
Trend Diabetes Co-Chair, Nurse Consultant – Diabetes

Debbie began working in diabetes nursing in 1990 where she developed the Diabetes Specialist Nursing Service in Hull.
In 2005, she moved south to take up the post of Nurse Consultant – Diabetes. Since 2019 she has worked for Medicus Health Partners in Primary Care, with a population of over 100,000 patients on its register, leading on diabetes care. Debbie has published more than 130 papers both in the UK and internationally. She is the Chair of Injection Technique Matters – Best Practice in Diabetes Nursing, which aims to improve outcomes for people with diabetes who inject. Debbie has won two national awards for her work on injection technique education
Debbie is also a member of the editorial board for the Diabetes Times.

June James
Trend Diabetes Co-Chair, Nurse Consultant and Honorary Associate Professor

June is a Nurse Consultant in Diabetes and the Co-Chair of Trend Diabetes. Her long and varied career included working as a ward sister, and a practice nurse.
Since 1992 she has worked wholly in diabetes, firstly as a diabetes specialist nurse in hospital and intermediate care in Peterborough and then as a Nurse Consultant for the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
She now works as a Nurse Consultant and Honorary Associate Professor (Hons) for the Leicester Diabetes Centre.
June works on various multidisciplinary committees such as the Joint British Diabetes Societies (JBDS). She is a Co-Editor for Practical Diabetes and writes and peer reviews for other diabetes journals, including Diabetic Medicine.
